Safeguarding Children

Our Commitment to Child Safety
AFL Safeguarding Children is a comprehensive commitment within the Australian Football community to ensure that all children and young people involved in football and related activities are protected, respected, and supported in safe environments. It reflects a zero-tolerance approach to harm, abuse, and neglect and is grounded in policies and practices that uphold the rights of every child to be safe, feel safe and play safe, whether participating in games, programs, training or using club facilities. This commitment involves clear behavioural standards, robust reporting and response procedures, and ongoing education for staff, volunteers, coaches, officials, families and clubs to foster a culture where safety and wellbeing are paramount. AFL Safeguarding aligns with national child safety expectations in sport and encourages the entire community to recognise and act on concerns, ensuring young participants can enjoy the benefits of football in a nurturing, inclusive and secure setting. You can learn more about these principles, policies and how to raise a concern at the AFL Barwon Safeguarding Resource Hub.
